Clun Climate and Environment Group
Report to parish meeting May 2024
The CCEG has been meeting monthly (live or online) since October 2019. We are an open group and anyone local is welcome to attend or subscribe to our mailing list. We have a Climate Emergency Action Plan, approved by Clun Town Council. Groups of volunteers are making a significant impact in our local environment. Practical activities include River Monitoring in partnership with Shropshire Wildlife Trust local branch, verges restoration in partnership with Restoring Shropshire’s Verges Project and in the winter litter picking along the main routes into Clun. We are about to start an initiative in addressing invasive species in the River Clun by pulling Himalayan Balsam. Other tasks involve collection of information and provision of reports. We are concerned to connect with local residents as much as possible. Following on from an Energy Audit of Public Buildings, we are supporting St George’s Primary Academy Clun in acting on their Decarbonisation Plan and have supported Clun Museum and Clun Memorial Hall in their own initiatives. Dissemination of information particularly about our carbon footprints and energy efficiency is a crucial part of the role. We are ever hopeful of working with local farmers. We contributed a draft Biodiversity Policy to Clun Town Council with Chapel Lawn, which is a statutory requirement for them and likely to involve us in further activities.
We report monthly to Clun Town Council with Chapel Lawn meetings and have a web page with is updated monthly.
