A presentation took place on 4th September at the Memorial Hall in Clun, where a new Defibrillator has just been installed, due to the sterling efforts of Miss Jessica Benson, age 11, a pupil at a local school. Entirely of her own volition, and without the knowledge of the hall trustees, she undertook a sponsored swim at the pool in Bishops Castle, swimming 6.5 kilometres. She raised £533, which she then donated to the AED shop in Clun with the express wish that it be put towards a defibrillator to be sited at the Memorial Hall. The AED shop generously contributed the balance of the cost.

In recognition of her achievement, she has been presented with the High Sheriff’s Award for, Great & Valuable Services to the Community, by Mandy Thorn, the High Sheriff of Shropshire. Mayor Ryan Davies also presented the Town Council Award for Outstanding Initiative and Cllr. Rob Andrews, Chair of Trustees presented a framed letter of thanks on behalf of the Memorial Hall Committee. Also in attendance was the Deputy Lieutenant of Shropshire, Katherine Garnier.
